Ryan, Age 17

“Addiction comes with a lot of other struggles.”

Addiction comes with a lot of other struggles, such as financial, family and relationships, anxiety, feeling like I am a burden, but the hardest thing to deal with is feeling powerless and alone when battling your struggles. Support is out there; you just need to take a chance and take the first step.

Thomas, Age 21

“When I first started smoking cannabis I never really thought it was something I could get addicted too.”

When I first started smoking cannabis I never really thought it was something I could get addicted too, and something that can take control of my life in such a negative way, but with the help from friends, family and TCA I have been able to start my journey of being free of addiction although it comes with struggles support is always there by my side.

Angus Alcohol & Drugs Partnership - Cocaine

In the first episode of this short series, we are discussing the impacts and support services available to family members and those impacted by substance misuse in Angus. In this episode, we hear from a dad in Angus whose son's cocaine use has affected the whole family. His experience has led to support from the Angus Alcohol and Drug Partnership, Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs, and other ADP services. Together, they’ve created a steering group ‘For Families By Families’ to help make a difference for families in Angus. We hope this encourages other families to reach out for support. Huge thanks to Jim (pseudonym) for sharing her story with us.
